SKILL SHARE EVENT IN LLANDEILO

Spinning and weaving, green woodworking, preserves from garden plants and jewellery from out-of-circulation coins were among the crafts on display at Transition Tywi Trawsnewid’s Skill Share event in Llandeilo’s Civic Hall on Saturday May 18th 2019.

The free event attracted a steady flow of visitors, who watched the craftspeople in action and found out more about sustainable living generally.

There was much interest in Y Pantri Glas, a new shop due to open at 19 Carmarthen Street, Llandeilo, on Saturday June 15th. This shop aims to be zero-waste, without plastics or non-recyclable products and packaging. See YPantriGlas on Facebook for more information.

Janet from Capel Isaac demonstrated spinning, and mentioned two local groups: Llansadwrn Spinners, meeting in Llansadwrn Reading Room on Tuesdays, 2pm-4pm, and Carmarthen Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, who get together the first Saturday of every month in the community centre behind Carmarthen’s library, 10.30am-3pm.

Ieuan Mochyn Daear Coch was working with green wood, making an axe handle, and also forming part of the music quartet which provided entertainment. Ieuan has a Facebook page, Red Badger Woodland Crafts.

John Gaffney was in charge of refreshments, which included teas, coffees and many home-baked cakes.
